Prof. Dr. Kirpal Nandra

Since August 2010 he is a director at the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics and Visiting Professor of Astrophysics at the Imperial College London. He obtained his doctoral degree at the University of Leicester, UK in 1992 on the topic “Spectral Signatures in the X-ray emission of Seyfert Galaxies”. Subsequently he worked as a postdoc at the Institute of Astronomy in Cambridge, UK and as research Associate and Research Scientist at NASA/ GSFC, USA. In September 2002 he went back to the UK as Senior Lecturer at the Imperial College London. In 2005 he was appointed as Professor in Astrophysics at the Imperial College and worked there until 2010 as the Head of Astrophysics.
Prof. Nandra is Honorary Professor at Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich since 2011.


Research interests:

  • Active Galactic Nuclei
  • Deep surveys and the high redshift universe
  • High-energy astrophysics and X-ray astronomy
