Prof. Dr. Ewald Müller

Priv. Doz. Dr. habil. Ewald Müller is a research group leader at the MPA and lectures regulary at the Technische Universitä München. He holds a doctoral degree in physics from the Technische Hochschule in Darmstadt (1979). At that time he worked in the nuclear astrophysics group at the Institute for Nuclear Physics on the influence of magnetic fields on core collapse supernovae. In 1979 he became a post-doctoral fellow at MPA working with Prof. Wolfgang Hillebrandt on rotational core collapse. In 1981/82 he spent a year as a Fermi postdoctoral fellow at the University of Chicago studying with Prof. Dave Arnett thermonuclear supernovae. In 1994 he habilitated at the Technische Universität München and is lecturing at this institution ever since. Since 2000 he is a member (Privatdozent) of the physics faculty of the Technische Universität München. He has been a long term visitor at the University of Chicago, the University of Arizona at Tucson, the University of California at Santa Barbara, and at the University of Tokyo. He has delivered lecture series within the European Astrophysical Doctoral Network and at the Les Houches School of Physics, has been a lecturer of a Saas-Fee Advanced Course (1997), and has supervised since 2000 more than a dozen of PhD projects.

Research interests:

  • Mutidimensional hydrodynamic and magnetohydrodynamic simulations of astrophysical phenomena, in particular, supernova explosions and relativistic jets
