Prof. Dr. Paola Caselli
Paola Caselli is a Director and Scientific Member at the Max-Planck-Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics since April 2014, 2019-2021 Hasselblad Guest Professor at Onsala Space Observatory and 2020 Blaauw Professor at University of Groningen. She studied Astronomy at the University of Bologna, where she graduated in 1990. In 1994 she obtained the PhD in Astrophysics at the University of Bologna, after spending nine months as visiting student at the Ohio State University with Eric Herbst and two years at the Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA) as a pre-doctoral fellow under the supervision of Phil Myers. After a Postdoctoral Fellowship at CfA, in 1996 she became Researcher at the Arcetri Astrophysical Observatory in Florence, where she remained until 2005. She spent the Fall of 2005 as Visiting Scientist at UC Berkeley Astronomy Department. In 2006 and 2007 she was Visiting Scholar in the Department of Astronomy, Harvard University, and in 2007 she became Professor of Astronomy at the School of Physics and Astronomy, University of Leeds. In 2013 she was granted an ERC Advanced Grant. Since 2014, she is Director of the Centre for Astrochemical Studies (CAS) at the Max-Planck-Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics and Honorary Professor at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich.
The CAS group consists of observers, theoreticians and experimentalists, all focusing on astrochemistry and its applications in the field of star and planet formation.
