Priv. Doz. Dr. habil. Joachim Puls is akademischer Oberrat at the Munich University observatory. He holds a doctoral degree in physics from the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich (1987) and has worked at the associated observatory as assistant and lecturer (Privat Dozent since 1995) until now. His research subject was and is the theoretical and observational investigation of radiation driven winds from hot stars as well as related applications. Dr. Puls is chair of the IAU Working Group on Massive Stars (under Division IV, Stars), and Vice-President of IAU Commission 36 (Stellar Atmospheres).

Research interests:

  • Modelling of stellar atmospheres (in particular of hot stars), including
  • non-LTE description and radiation hydrodynamics of radiatively driven winds
  • Analysis of stellar spectra in (almost) all spectral ranges from X-ray to radio domain
