Prof. Dr. Hans-Thomas Janka

Priv. Doz. Dr. habil. Hans-Thomas Janka holds a doctoral degree from the Technical University (TU) of Munich since 1991. In 2002 he got his habilitation at the same university. After four years as a postdoc at the MPA, he was a visiting scientist and Otto-Hahn fellow at the University of Chicago in 1994/1995. In 1996 he became staff researcher at the MPA. He teaches lecture courses in theoretical astrophysics at the TUM and is deputy leader of Research Area G ("Heavy Elements") within the local Cluster of Excellence for Fundamental Physics. Moreover, he is leader of research projects on compact object mergers and stellar core collapse in two Transregional Collaborative Research Centres (SFBs) funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft: SFB/TR7 on "Gravitational Wave Astronomy" (linking MPA with the universities of Jena, Tübingen and Hannover, and the MPI for Gravitational Physics in Golm) and SFB/TR27 on "Neutrinos and Beyond" (linking MPA with the TUM, the universities and research center of Karlsruhe, the University of Tübingen, and the Max Planck for Physics and Nuclear Physics in Munich and Heidelberg, respectively).
