Prof. Dr. Rolf-Peter Kudritzki

Rolf Kudritzki is director of the Munich Institute for Astro and Particle Physics (MIAPP) which is operated jointly by both Munich universities, LMU and TUM. He had a chair at University Observatory Munich from 1982 to 2000 and was Dean of Physics at LMU from 1998 to 2000. Then he moved to Hawaii to become director of the Institute for Astronomy of the University of Hawaii. He returned to Munich in summer 2017 and holds a "Honorarprofessur" at LMU in addition to his position as MIAPP director. He is also still affiliated with the IfA in Hawaii and uses the telescopes on Mauna Kea for his work in addition to the telescopes at ESO. Rolf Kudritzki is a member of the German National Academy of Sciences "Leopoldina".

  • Radiative transfer and spectral analysis
  • Stellar astronomy and stellar spectroscopy
  • Evolution of galaxies
  • Extragalactic distance scale
