Dr. Max Gronke

Max Gronke leads the Max Planck Research Group "Multiphase Gas" at the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics (MPA) since 2021. He obtained his PhD in 2017 at the Institute of Theoretical Astrophysics in Oslo, Norway, where he was supervised by Mark Dijkstra.
He then moved to the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), joining the group of Siang Peng Oh. In 2018, he was awarded the NASA Hubble Fellowship which allowed him to continue his research at UCSB and the Johns Hopkins University (JHU) in Baltimore. The awarded grant of the Max Planck society permitted him to build up a research group at MPA.

Research interests:

- the formation and evolution of galaxies
- the circumgalactic medium and the galactic ecosystem
- the epoch of reionization
- multiphase gas dynamics
- radiative transfer
- computational astrophysics
